As Above, So Below

Have you ever pondered this axiom—this principal
of Hermetic law?

I’m certain there are many
interpretations out there. After all, this principal, one of Hermes Trismegistus (also known as
Hermes) Seven Principles of Universal law was created for the purpose of personal growth and with the intention of
achieving a greater and deeper understanding of the self, the world and beyond.
These were principals believed to address the relationship of the microcosm and
the macrocosm.

There are the Seven Principles
taught by Hermes, the Greek God of travelers, thieves, commerce, and the messenger
of the Gods. Hermes was also known as the great priest, Thoth, to the
Egyptians.

So, let’s discuss these Seven Principles, shall we?

1. Principle of Mentalism: “All is
Mind”

2. Principle of Correspondence:
“As is above, so is below. As is below, so is above.”

3. Principle of Vibration:
“Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.”

4. Principle of Polarity:
“Everything is dual; everything has an opposite, and opposites are identical in
nature but differ in degree.”

5. Principle of Rhythm:
“Everything flows, out and in; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the
measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left–rhythm compensates.”

6. Principle of Cause and Effect:
“Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause.”

7. Principle of Gender:
“Everything has its masculine and feminine principles.”

So, in asking myself the question,
I mused: ”All is in the mind”…yes, that makes sense—our thoughts are creative,
we are eternally manifesting. What we think about – and thank about – we bring
about.

“As above, so below”…yes, as the
photo reveals, we are mirrors—mirrors to others and others are mirrors
of us. While this may be an unnerving concept and one that many people would
reject—“I don’t act like that!!! I don’t do the things you’re doing!!! I never
behave that way!!!”—I would like to say, I have personally experienced this
very principle in my life, and though it’s a tough pill to swallow, I’ve
learned a great deal about myself through others mirroring my behavior. Herein
lies the microcosm of
mirroring in one-on-one relationships. When we move into the macrocosm
application, we see the world at large mirrors us individually and
collectively.

Still with me?  :-)

“Everything vibrates”…yes, we are
pure moving energy. We affect others energetically and vise versa—it is
reciprocal. This is abundantly clear to me. It’s quite literally referred to
when someone states: “Wow, the tension is so thick in this room, you could cut
it with a knife!” Feeling tension equals feeling energy! Feeling love equals feeling energy!

“Everything is dual”…yes, we live
in a world of duality. One cannot know day,
if one does not know night. Light gives purpose to darkness, darkness gives purpose to Light. Duality of Light and darkness gives purpose to Creation itself. This holds true for our human
experiences—we learn from duality. We cannot know love unless we know fear. We
cannot know success unless we know failure. We cannot know charity (or giving)
unless we know receiving…yes!

“Everything has a rhythm—a
cycle”…yes, being in the flow, as
opposed to resisting it, is, in my opinion, the key to peace and personal
well-being. There will be good times, and then the pendulum will swing, and there
will be challenging times. The only thing that is guaranteed, besides death on
this physical plane of existence, is change.

“Cause and effect”…yes, everything
we do or say…or even feel (again, think about the concept: what we think about
– and thank about – we bring about) has an effect. Nothing we do goes unnoticed
or unfelt, whether physically, energetically….or karmically…

“Everything has masculine and feminine
principles”….yes, even planets have masculine and feminine
principles. Look at Venus…look at Mars. The twelve signs of the Zodiac have
masculine and feminine principles. Look at Aries…look at Virgo. Mother Earth,
herself, has masculine and feminine principles. With that said, as we look at the world around
us, we see and feel a dominant masculine energy. It’s time to bring things back
into balance. It’s time to usher in a new paradigm in our everyday lives by
embracing the feminine, softer side within us all, whether we are male or
female.

Ok, so there are my
thoughts on Hermes’ Seven Principals of Universal Law. What are yours…?
